A historical Boy Scouts of America (BSA) Order of the Arrow (OA) lodge chartered in 1932.
Location & Council: The lodge was originally based out of New Albany, Indiana, serving the George Rogers Clark Council. [1, 2]
Meaning & Totem: The word Tseydin translates to "cliff dweller," which was represented visually on the lodge's early round memorabilia patches. Its official totem was the raccoon.
The "Error Patch" Legacy: Among scouting memorabilia collectors tracking data on sites like the International Scouting Collectors Association, Tseydin Lodge holds a distinct record for having the most official patch error issues (6 in total). Manufacturers frequently misspelled the name as "Tseyedin" or misprinted the raccoon totem to look like a fox.
Merger: In 1995, Tseydin Lodge merged with Zit-Kala-Sha Lodge #123 to form the Talligewi Lodge. Following later consolidations, it became a piece of the broader history preserved today within the Lincoln Heritage Council.
Formation (January 1, 1995): The lodge was officially chartered following the council consolidation that created the Lincoln Heritage Council. It was a merger between Tseyedin Lodge #65 (George Rogers Clark Area Council) and Zit-Kala-Sha Lodge #123 (Old Kentucky Home Council). [1]
Location & Council: a former local chapter of the Order of the Arrow (the National Honor Society of Scouting America, formerly Boy Scouts of America) centered in Louisville, Kentucky
Dissolution (January 1, 2013): After an 18-year run, Talligewi Lodge #62 officially dissolved due to another major council-wide alignment. It merged with White Horse Lodge #201 to form the current, active Nguttitehen Lodge #205. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
Meaning and Totem: The lodge's symbol and totem was a Mandan Indian.
The Lore: The name Talligewi refers to an ancient, legendary Native American tribe. Local lore associated them with the historic Battle of Sand Island, fought at the Falls of the Ohio River between Louisville, Kentucky, and Clarksville, Indiana. [1]
Lodge History
Formation (January 1, 2013): Nguttitehen Lodge #205 was officially established as a brand-new, unified entity. It was formed by the merger of Talligewi Lodge #62 and White Horse Lodge #201.
The Totem: The official totem of the lodge is a fire, specifically representing the fire of cheerfulness.
The Name: Nguttitehen originates from the Lenni-Lenape (Delaware) language and translates to "to be of one heart and one mind". [1]
A Deeper Lineage: Though the lodge itself was founded in 2013, its historical roots trace back roughly 90 years through a vast family tree of historical council mergers. According to the official Nguttitehen Lodge history page, the territory it governs includes the legacy of several defunct pioneer lodges:
Tseyedin Lodge #65
Zit-Kala-Sha Lodge #123
Wapiti Lodge #367
Walah Elemamekhaki Lodge #405
White Feather Lodge #499
