The property was acquired for Scouting use and hosted its very first official week of summer camp in July 1928 under the George Rogers Clark Area Council.
The property includes the John Work House and Mill Site, recognizing its irreplaceable role in Indiana history.
Following the 1993 council consolidation that created the Lincoln Heritage Council, long-term Boy Scout summer camp operations shifted elsewhere. Tunnel Mill transitioned into a major hub for:
Cub Scout Camping: It primarily hosts Cub Scout day camps and Webelos residential weekends.
Training & Fellowships: It serves as a frequent site for Wood Badge adult training, National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT), and local chapter events for Nguttitehen Lodge #205.
